Sleeping soundly is a vital aspect of keeping yourself in tiptop shape. Nevertheless, catching those Z's can be challenging for many folks out there. Although there are a myriad of things that can impact your rest, such as stress, anxiety, and environmental factors, there are some fantastic remedies that can help you relax and enhance your sleep quality.

When we wake up in the morning the first sunlight we bring into our eyes sets off a timer is our brains for the release time of Melatonin. The rise in melatonin begins soon after dusk, being released endogenously into the bloodstream calling to the body “It’s dark, time to wind down”.

However melatonin is slightly misunderstood; it actually has little influence on the generation of sleep. If falling asleep was like an orchestra, Melatonin is the conductor. Melatonin provides the instruction to commence the lullaby of sleep, but does not participate in the creation of music directly.

Valerian root is an herbal medicine who’s history takes us back to the shores of ancient Greece. Since then its magic has spread over the world, being adopted by different cultures to promote sleep and help relieve anxiety.

When it comes to getting to sleep, relaxation is the name of the game. If we are stressed and anxious our minds are typically racing no matter how tired the body feels. Valerian Root works by increasing levels of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. GABA is a neurotransmitter that helps to calm the nervous system and reduce anxiety. It also has anti-inflammatory effect and like most natural sleep aids it doesn’t cause any grogginess the next day.

The amino acid L-theanine is commonly found in tea leaves and is one of the main reasons why tea typically makes you feel less anxious or jittery compared to coffee. L-theanine works by increasing the production of certain neurotransmitters such as GABA which are known to promote relaxation and a sense of calm. It also appears to have an impact on brain wave patterns, moving us from the waking beta state into alpha waves.

Alpha waves are associated with relaxation and mental clarity. They are also present during deep states of meditation and during REM sleep. By promoting the production of alpha waves, L-theanine can help to prepare the body and mind for sleep.

Knowing all of this we designed of our Sleep Smart Mushroom Gummies into something magical. Alone melatonin is barely a sleep aid but with a team of talented musicians who are up for the task, melatonin becomes an incredible ally. When we add the team of Reishi, medicinal plants and essential minerals a symphony of responses that promote sleep and relaxation begins to play. Our body temperature drops, our muscles relax and our minds calm down. Our eyes want to close, we fall asleep, we stay asleep and we wake up feeling refreshed. The moment sleep is under way, melatonin beings to slowly decrease until sunlight enters our eyes (even through the closed lids) which finally completes the Circadian Rhythm Cycle.
